Kodak Sponsors Breakthrough £1,000 Challenge

Kodak is continuing its support of the vital work of research charity Breakthrough Breast Cancer in 2002 by again agreeing to be sole sponsor of the £1,000 Challenge, which is aimed at challenging individuals to raise £1,000 each towards Breakthrough's work.
Kodak and Breakthrough have a natural association as Kodak's health imaging products are used daily in the field of mammography.

Kodak believes that the £1,000 Challenge is particularly important, as it encourages every person to think about how they can make a difference and contribute to such a worthwhile cause. As campaign sponsor, Kodak will donate £100 to Breakthrough for every new challenger recruited during 2002 up to a total donation of £100,000.

Breast cancer claims the lives of over 1,000 women a month in the UK - a statistic that translates into thousands of families and friends being touched by the disease in some way. Breakthrough's vision is a future free from the fear of breast cancer, achieved through research and awareness-raising. In 1999, the charity established the UK's first dedicated breast cancer research centre, The Breakthrough Toby Robins Breast Cancer Research Centre, in partnership with the Institute of Cancer Research.

In order to maximise Kodak's support for Breakthrough, employees across the Company are already making plans to raise money for the charity. A number are taking part in the Playtex Moonwalk, from which Breakthrough benefits and several members of Kodak's Health Imaging Division are again running the London Marathon in March. Last year all completed the course, some achieving personal best times, and raising an impressive total of £10,000 in aid of Breakthrough and a charity in support of Autism.

In addition to supporting Breakthrough, Kodak has made a significant investment in the development of a new team of Mammography Support Engineers to help meet the special needs of mammography. This group of highly trained engineers is at the heart of Kodak's new service programme for mammography, which is designed to offer Kodak customers help in meeting the rigorous challenges and demands of a breast screening programme.
