Kodak Shows Latest Digital Platforms For PACS, RIS, DR and CR Systems At UKRC

The Kodak stand at UKRC will see Kodak showcase an innovative line of digital imaging products, including digital radiography (DR) and computed radiography (CR) systems, an integrated PACS and RIS platform and Web distribution technology to enable hospitals to extend the reach of PACS.

Digital Radiography
The new Kodak DirectView DR 5100, a versatile system for chest radiographs, will represent the Kodak DR portfolio. With digital radiography, images can be reviewed within 10 seconds of exposure for quality assurance and the image cycle time is only 35 seconds. These systems also eliminate the processing step required for film and the cassette handling common to both film and CR systems.

Kodak's DR systems use direct amorphous selenium technology, which delivers the highest image quality available today in digital radiography. Direct detectors automatically convert x-ray photons into electronic signals. Indirect detectors have an added step; they first convert x-rays into light, then convert the light to electronic signals. In the process, light scatter tends to degrade the signal profile and resolution. Kodak's direct detectors, on the other hand, produce highly precise signal profiles and resolution.

Kodak DirectView EVP software enhances the consistency of images produced by the DR systems and can increase productivity through reductions in viewing time and image manipulation. As proven with Kodak's CR products, the optional EVP software offers images with increased latitude while preserving contrast detail.

Computed Radiography
Representing the CR product portfolio is the Kodak DirectView CR 800 system which supports lower volume applications. The CR 800 system is the first computed radiography unit to feature an innovative "all-in-one" design. This compact design allows CR units to be placed closer to patients and examination rooms. Some competitive systems require additional workstations to perform functions such as patient/cassette identification, DICOM worklist, and image QA.

PACS/RIS Platform
The Kodak Radiology Information System 2010 is a complete modular system, which enhances PACS productivity by providing the link between the Hospital Radiology Information System (RIS) and the PACS. This latest workflow solution for modern diagnostic imaging manages all necessary procedures, offering a familiar, user friendly graphic interface with an added emphasis on flexibility, safety and quality.

Laser Imaging
Kodak offers a wide variety of printing solutions including direct-to-modality, networked and web-based printing choices that serve the needs of hospitals and imaging facilities across the UK. On show at UKRC will be the Kodak DryView 8200 Laser Imager which can be integrated with the Kodak DirectView CR 800 computed radiology system to offer automatic routing of CR images to the correct film drawer without operator involvement for maximum workflow, quality and productivity.

Distributed Medical Imaging
Kodak DirectView Web Distribution System enables hospitals to significantly extend the reach of PACS by rapidly distributing diagnostic reports and referral images over the Web. The system is cost-effective as it uses established Web technologies and can help improve radiology services and patient care by delivering reports and images more quickly and more efficiently. High quality electronically distributed images provide excellent reference for reports helping to communicate the exact nature of findings or assist in clarifying telephone conversations.
