PACS Systems Operational At Aberdeen Royal Infirmary
The installation of digital image acquisition, viewing and storage systems within the A&E X-ray Department at Aberdeen Royal Infirmary has been completed by Kodak and is now fully functional.
Installation into the busy A&E centre, which generates around 135,000 images annually, is the first stage of a long-term plan for Grampian University Hospitals NHS Trust to implement a Trust-wide PACS solution and Electronic Medical Record. The Trust provides a range of acute services for the population in the North East of Scotland, Orkney and Shetland Islands. The main teaching hospitals, incorporating adult, children and maternity services, are located on the Foresterhill site along with the University of Aberdeen Medical School and Institute of Medical Sciences.
The new system includes two Kodak DirectView CR 800 Systems for digital image capture, incorporating EVP software and remote operations panel for complete image handling. The systems can be used to read cassettes, process images, view images and then reprocess them if desired and images are then distributed for soft copy review in A&E via three Kodak AutoRad workstations.
A Kodak ArchiveManager with a large RAID configuration and DLT archive will provide storage and rapid access to current and past images and a PACS Broker will integrate with the RIS to allow the efficient management of DICOM worklist.
When diagnostic quality hard copy printing is required, images can be automatically routed via a PACS Link from the CR 800s to a Kodak DryView 8200 Laser Imager, which offers sharp, precise images and optimal grayscale reproduction in a choice of online multiple film sizes.
Kodak, DirectView, AutoRad, ArchiveManager and DryView are trade marks
