Kodak Creates Largest Home-to-Retail Picture Printing Network For Mass Marketplace

COLOGNE, Germany, September 24, 2002 – Print anywhere, anytime, from any device. That’s the guiding principle that led to the development of Kodak Picture Center Online, the world’s largest infrastructure for online photo processing, with 5,400 participating retail outlets in Western Europe alone. This European launch is expected to mirror the tremendous success of the KPCO in the United States, where there are now 20,000 retail outlets housing these online centers.

Eastman Kodak Company’s ever-expanding lineup of well-known online and retail partners underscores its commitment to offer consumers the ability to easily print their pictures in the most efficient and convenient way. As part of Kodak’s overall digital printing system, Kodak Picture Center Online goes one step beyond the Kodak Order Station, which is the in-store solution for printing from digital cameras – prints can now be made in the store or ordered from home online and be picked up later at the store.

“It's all about choices," says Dieter Werkhausen, General Manager, Consumer Digital Services, Consumer Imaging, Eastman Kodak SA, Geneva. "We are assembling an online network of service providers that make the pathway to printing seamless from home or office to the retail store." Kodak’s goal is to make it easier for consumers to print photos while making digital imaging easier.

In Europe, Kodak has launched retail online printing services in several countries at various locations, including among others:

  • FNAC, ActionShop, Hyper Carrefour and Makro BE in Belgium
  • Carrefour and Champion in France
  • Saturn, Ihr Platz, Kloppenberg and Budni in Germany
  • SPAR, DM and Promarkt in Austria
  • Dixons, Etos, Kral Objektief and Kral Superfoto in the Netherlands

Kodak’s goal is to make printing digital pictures as simple and as easy as possible. Kodak research shows that consumers prefer the quality of traditional prints and the local service of their retail store. Through Kodak Picture Center Online, printing pictures via the Internet links the convenience of home or office access with the quality of retail printing as part of the consumer’s everyday shopping experience.

With these latest agreements, Kodak Picture Center Online is available at approximately 5,400 retail outlets across Germany, Austria, Belgium, France and the Netherlands. Plans also are underway for further expansion in other countries, including Spain, UK and Nordic.
