Kodak Showcases Latest Product Innovations At UKRC

The Kodak stand No.12 at this year’s UKRC will see Kodak’s Health Imaging Group showcase its latest generation of imaging products, systems and services. Products to be demonstrated include an exciting next-generation picture archiving and communications system (PACS) with a powerful web component, a new flagship dry laser imager and Kodak’s latest computed radiography (CR) system.

Also on show will be a new long-length computed radiography product for digital image capture of full leg and spine images, the latest developments for an integrated RIS platform for improved productivity and information accuracy and the latest additions to Kodak’s digital radiography (DR) platform.

This year Kodak is involved in a number of activities outside of the product arena. For the first time Kodak specialists are part of the lecture programme and the Company is also hosting a special PACS and CR user group on Monday 16th June where Dr Fred Prior, Director, Product Development Healthcare Information Systems, Eastman Kodak Company will give a presentation.

New Products being showcased include:

NEW for Capture

Kodak DirectView CR 850 System - a single-cassette system that offers throughput of up to103 cassettes an hour. In addition to offering exceptional image quality and ease of use, the speed of the CR 850 system can improve productivity and patient throughput in a variety of environments. The all-in-one design offers a footprint of just 63cm x 73cm, making it ideal for A&E, ICU and other areas with limited floor space.

Kodak DirectView DR 5100 System - a digital radiography system for the direct digital capture of images. The system is built on a compact platform that includes a new integrated touch-screen operator console, a new generator, bucky and tube stand, and Kodak DirectView PTS software. The DR 5100 System provides outstanding productivity for chest and other upright examinations for ambulatory and non-ambulatory patients.

Kodak DirectView CR Long-Length Imaging System - a digital image capture system that includes a wall-mounted vertical cassette holder, to provide hospitals with digital image capture of full leg and full spine images. Kodak’s fully automated stitching software delivers images of up to 43cm x 129cm that can be viewed in softcopy or printed onto radiographic film. This system significantly reduces the most frequent causes of exam retakes, which are poor stitching, incorrect alignment or images that are not in the right order.

NEW for PACS

Kodak DirectView PACS System 5 architecture - which is currently under development, will expedite the efficient storage, reading and review of radiology reports and imaging studies. It will scale to support a small hospital, one or more imaging centres or a large health care facility. The Kodak DirectView Web Distribution System provides a foundation for the transition to the new System 5 architecture. Kodak’s migration path includes a series of upgrades designed to leverage existing PACS equipment.

NEW for the Web

Kodak DirectView Web Distribution System - which distributes imaging studies and radiology reports to referring physicians using the Internet, includes the new database that will be used with PACS System 5 architecture and presents new and existing customers with the opportunity to begin migration. The Web system supports clinical review on dual-monitor, high-resolution workstations; provides both lossless and lossy (wavelet) compressions; and supports both Macintosh and PC platforms using an Internet Explorer or Netscape browser.

NEW for RIS

Kodak Radiology Information System 2010 - a complete and modern information system built for improving productivity, efficiency and information accuracy. It is designed for integration throughout the hospital running on the normal hospital network. The system consists of a number of workstations located around the various departments and is centred on the RIS 2010 server and several gateways and other peripheral servers (for example, the dictate server, the scan server, the DICOM gateway, the Web gateway, the HIS gateway etc.).

NEW for Printing

Kodak DryView 8900 Laser Imager is the new flagship in Kodak’s dry laser imaging family. Five film sizes can be supported, with three sizes on line. Productivity is 160 to 200 films per hour dependent on film size mix and all film sizes are printed at an incredible 650 DPI resolution. This is a significant advantage when compared to other imagers that only offer high resolution on small film sizes. The film throughput and film sizes supported make the Kodak DryView 8900 the ideal choice for high volume CR and DR applications or busy centralised printing from multiple imaging modalities. The ability to place any film size in any drawer provides flexible imaging format options whilst the innovative top mounted film sorter provides improved workflow.

Professional Services
At UKRC Kodak is highlighting its range of scalable support services and comprehensive training programmes designed to address the needs of customers before, during and after equipment installation. As part of its Professional Services, Kodak also provides network assessment and design, project management, applications consulting, integration services, training and education, and a suite of services that address privacy and security issues for the transfer of images and information.
