New Firmware Boost For Kodak DCS Pro 14n Users

Photographers who have bought the award-winning Kodak Professional DCS Pro 14n digital camera can now download the latest free firmware upgrades from the Kodak website (http://www.kodak.com/go/DCSsoftware)

The new v4.2.2 firmware version adds a variety of new features and enhancements to optimise image quality and performance including:

  • The SD/MMC card slot is activated.
  • The CF card slot now has a “write speed” feature, located on the Capture menu.
  • A “focus area lock” feature has been added to the Custom Function menu.
  • Start-up and shutdown times are faster.
  • ISO-dependent long exposure shutter time limits are enhanced.
  • Standard jpeg files are now a JPEG File Type setting on the Image Tab menu.
  • Vertical Release menu now includes Auto, Unlock and Lock settings.
  • ERI zone on histogram now starts at the 170% clip mark.
  • Support for future on-board memory expansion has been added.
  • Storage card config settings remain when switching between Basic and Advanced modes.
  • Basic mode now has all white balance settings (except “click WB”).

Said David Kitchin, Kodak Professional marketing manager (Digital Products):
“ The DCS Pro 14n currently delivers the sharpest, most detailed images possible today from a digital SLR camera, and will continue to improve through firmware upgrades to optimize its specifications. We expect to release two further upgrades by the end of May – and of course all firmware enhancements are completely free to Kodak Professional digital camera customers.”

He added: They are a compelling part of the DCS Pro 14n camera’s value and appeal – the ability to “renew” the camera regularly by adding functional enhancements and new capabilities.”

London-based corporate and industrial photographer Mike Sheil, one of the first users of the DCS Pro 14n in the UK, said: “The DCS Pro 14n has changed forever the way I think about cameras. The rate of change in this business and the amount you have to invest is terrifying - so to be able to buy a camera which is effectively future-proofed through free downloadable firmware enhancements is very important.

I had a few issues with the functionality when I first bought the 14n but Kodak support for this new camera has been outstanding.”
